What is thermal transfer?
|

Thermal transfer is a digital printing process where pulses of heat are delivered through a thermal print head and ink is
melted off the ribbon onto the receiver material. (In many cases, a pressure-sensitive label stock, paper or film, overhead transparency, etc.).
|

|
Where are thermal transfer ribbons used?
|
|
|
Thermal Transfer ribbons are used to print bar code tags and labels, computer generated color graphics, facsimile
machines, airline tickets and outdoor signs.

Can Thermal Transfer Ribbons be recycled?
|
|
|
IIMAK has embarked on a recycling program for ribbons in conjunction with Dupont Films. A new plant in Cape Fear, North
Carolina is being build by Dupont for its Methanolysis process designed for polyester recycling. PET (polyester) film is the base component in thermal transfer ribbons. Dupont hopes to have the plant operational in mid 1997.
